Frequently Asked Questions
What is an iScript®?
An iScript is a professionally recorded audio version of a script or screenplay (or book, short story, thesis, annual report, etc.)
read by professional readers, similar to an audiobook.
iScripts can be listened to on MP3 players like iPods®, Blackberries® and iPhones® or on an audio CD.
How much does an iScript cost?
General text starts at $100 and is based on $10 per one thousand words for an audio file which you cannot resell,
or $20 per one thousand words including Master Resale Rights.
An average-length script with one reader will cost you less than $300.
See our pricing page for more information.
What are Master Resale Rights?
If you plan to sell your audio file (as with many audiobooks) or use it for profit (for example, as an audio tour),
then you must pay for the Master Resale Rights. Master Resale Rights give you the ability to sell the audio file, edit it,
own the copyright, sell the copyright, etc.
iScripts or audio recordings of projects like screenplays, annual reports, theses, legal briefs, etc. most likely do not require Master Resale Rights
as they will be distributed for direct profit.
Why should I get an iScript?
If you are serious about selling your screenplay or getting people to read your writing, there is no better tool to improve it
and get it to the people that can make things happen.
Now that audio is a red-hot trend and more and more people are addicted to their iPods,
having an iScript of your work vastly increases the chance that people will read or listen to it.
Listening to professional readers reading your work also helps you to evaluate it.
When is it interesting? When does it lag? Are your characters coming across how you thought they would?
iScripts help you get your writing in shape to sell.
Why should I join iScript.com and get a user page?
iScript.com's userpages are invaluable tools to store, share/submit and track your screenplays and other projects.
Once you have a userpage you can upload all your documents, include essential information about them (author, genre, logline, synopsis, etc.).
From there you can easily submit both PDF and iScripts (MP3s) of your projects and track whom you have submitted to and (coming soon) any comments.
The userpage will also allow you to upload rewrites and archive old ones.
No more attaching PDFs to e-mails and then hunting down the information to attach.
With your iScript share page, everything will be in one place, making submission of multiple projects as easy as click, click, click.
How do I use my userpage to submit my projects to agents, publishers, producers, etc?
From your main userpage, just click on the project you want to send. This will take you to your project page,
and from there you can fill out the simple share/submit form, which will send an invite to whomever you want to download your Project with its audio file.
They can then hit the link and see your project page with the Genre and Logline and ability to download.
You still have to do the hard work of finding the people to invite and writing a great logline to entice them.
How do iScripts get made?
As soon as you upload your script, our crack team will choose the best possible reader(s) to read that script professionally, taking into account any given instructions. With high quality equipment, the reader(s) records your script into an audio file which is then sent to one of our top-notch editors who will perform any necessary clean-up and send it on to our manager, who will upload the file and notify you that your iScript is ready for download. Voila! Hear your script.
What kind of files do you accept for upload of screenplays and other properties?
We accept Adobe PDF, Final Draft, Movie Magic Screenwriter, and Mariner Montage files as well as more ordinary text types, like Microsoft Word.
How long does an iScript take?
Short answer: 2 days or less for anything under 20,000 words (or an average length screenplay), 5 days for up to 100,000 words.
Longer answer: Standard turnaround time is two to five business days when you order your iScript Monday through Friday before noon Pacific Time.
If you choose a "Requested Reader" then we cannot guarantee a turnaround, since it depends on their availability.
What format is an iScript?
An iScript is in MP3 format or in M4B format, which is an MP3 file that allows bookmarks. All iPods and iTunes work with these formats.
Will there be chapters in my iScript?
A standard medium iScript will have 4 equal chapters to facilitate listening in different devices unless otherwise indicated in the General Instructions.
When ordering a recording from general text, chaptering will follow any chapters indicated in the text, or approximately every twenty minutes if not indicated.
What devices are compatible with iScript?
Over 175 devices are compatible with iScript, including the Apple® iPod®, Pocket PC, Palm OS handheld, Palm Treo, Garmin GPS, and many more.
And don't forget, you can still experience an iScript on your PC, Mac, or on CDs you burn.
What does an iScript sound like?
Can I give an iScript as a gift?
